Facebook is planning to offer email service. This news is quite hot these past few days. The news on Facebook to offer email service for its users is overwhelming for most people but the words regarding this is still to be disclosed in Web 2.0 Summit this November 15 – 17.

Some people think that this is a battle between Google and Facebook. Google with its search engine and many other services including Gmail versus Facebook, a social networking site with more than 500 million active users. Probably, this kind of “battle” also draws a lot of people attention before when Google opened its Gmail service versus Yahoo!’s Y!Mail with its superiority in messenger service, and MSN Hotmail powered by Microsoft back in 1996.

Being a Gmail user from 2004, I am quite happy with their service. I was more than happy to switch from my previous provider, and glad I did. One of the most important features from Gmail that makes me happy until now is POP/IMAP feature and cleaner looks (I really hate Yahoo!). Now with Facebook plan to start its email service, I wonder what will be their strong advantages over the others. My guess is that Facebook’s mail will not be created to compete head to head with other providers. Facebook’s mail advantage will be close connectivity and tighter integration with its social networking service and between its users.

Although I hate seeing feature updates in Facebook which seems to be more frequent lately, not to mention layout changes, and very hard to find settings, I am excited to wait for the announcement from Facebook regarding this “Project Titan” to answer my curiosity and check out the details of its features (and potentials) in a very near future (read: just hours from now).

Bandung

I just found my lost map of Bandung, a beautiful city in West Java, Indonesia. This will be helpful (it could be more helpful if the size is bigger) when I decide to go there again before this year end. It’s been two years since I visited Bandung.

Bandung is famous with boutiques and stores (also known as factory outlets) who sell their products at discounted price. Products mostly ranging from dresses for the gals to neckties for the guys. Some people told that the price are not actually cheaper, they even sell things at higher prices than the stores in Jakarta normally do.

For me, I am not into shoppings, so even if the price is lower than in other places, it won’t be the reason for me to come visit Bandung next time. It is the enjoyment of seeing people shopping that makes me want to go there.

Mostly, Bandung will be overcrowded with people from Jakarta or nearby cities during long weekend or holidays. In most places, Bandung will be full with vehicles from other places, you can tell from their plate numbers. In the same time, people from Bandung will also come to Jakarta to have their vacation, and do shopping too! One shocking truth is that, when people from Jakarta go to Bandung for shopping, the people from Bandung will also come to Jakarta for shopping.

For accommodations, Bandung has many places to choose from. It depends on what you would like to do during your stay. Hotels in the shopping districts will be good if you want to do shopping more comfortably considering the heavy traffic. You can just walk to shop rather than drive just to find out that it is impossible to park your car when you eventually reach the store.

You can choose from many choices of hotels in Lembang area if you want to have the real atmosphere of Bandung, to enjoy cool fresh air.  For most people, this is what they will do after the tiring days of working in the superly-terrificly-extra crowded Jakarta.

For the budget-conscious in mind, small hotels like Cherry Homes in Pasteur is recommended. Its location, being just a short distance from the Pasteur toll exit from Cipularang (the expressway from Jakarta) makes it very attractive when you don’t want to enter the hectic center of Bandung. Well, you get what you paid for, but the place is neat and clean for an affordable hotel. Parking lots are abundant although in some cases you can hardly get one. It seems that the hotel already has its reputation as a decent and affordable hotel. I myself enjoyed my stay there the last time I visited Bandung.

If you are having difficulty in finding hotels, visiting here will help you to decide on options you have. It may provide informations like the address of the hotel and its contact number. You probably won’t find any difficulties on finding informations for well-known hotels since mostly they have their own websites, but it WILL be difficult to find the small ones. Most people don’t even realize that a particular hotel does exist.

Bandung also offers you various foods and beautiful places to visit to. The official Bandung Tourism Office will give fresh ideas on what you can do there.

Well now, its October already and people are getting excited on things they are supposed to do before the year end. So if you are planning to have a vacation this December, you better plan and start reading about your destination to-be.

See you.
