WordPress is going to release version 3.1 in December 15, 2010. I was totally forgotten about this since a month ago until I saw again the article. After checking and reading some more news, the development is going to reach beta testing period starting this Nov 15. Well, hopefully everything will go as smooth as smoothen silk.

According to wpbeginner, these will be the summary of the new features in the coming 3.1:

  1. Internal linking
  2. Admin bar
  3. Ajaxified Admin Screens
  4. Separate Network Dashboard
  5. Quick Press Template Tag
  6. Improved UI for Searching and Browsing Installed Themes
  7. Post Templates / Post Styles
  8. Advanced Taxonomy Queries

Being an end-user and not-so-savvy-blogger, I think these new features will mainly affects the administering-side of the site. Being a writer, I would love to try the internal linking feature which will enable me to link to my previous posts (and probably other’s as well?). Well, I know how to quote and link, but it would be great to see this as a feature.

One thing I would like to remind you Admins (knock, knock) is about the ending of PHP 4 in WordPress. Version 3.1 will be the last version supporting PHP 4, and beginning 3.2 (some time in 2011) will support PHP 5.2.

I would like to think that this will be a christmas gift from WordPress.
